Scam Alert! Rebate processing work from home scams
Unfortunately, with the worsening of the economy and job market, there has been an enormous increase in the work at home scams appearing on the Internet. What’s most frustrating is that the ads for these “dream” home based business opportunities are finding themselves on even the most reputable job boards, not to mention bombarding your daily email inbox.
The latest in these home business scams is the “Rebate Processing” Scam which promises payment for each rebate application a person processes. These scam artists even guarantee what you can expect to make on a daily basis. All this for a one-time payment ranging between $37 and $197.
Buyer beware! This is simply a modification to the infamous “Data Entry” home business scam.
According to a Consumer Affairs article on Cleveland.com, the Cleveland Better Business Bureau is warning job hunters about rebate processor scams.
“An unemployed Lakewood woman who was looking for jobs online got an e-mailed offer from a California company named Penbrook Productions. The company claimed she would get $15 for each rebate she processed and was guaranteed to make at least $225 a day.
To get the job, she was told, she needed to buy a $197 program, which came with a money-back guarantee. All she received was an instruction packet telling her how to start her own rebate processing company.
When she complained, the company promised to refund her money, but she never got a cent. The company’s Web site, the BBB said, is no longer accessible, and phone calls are answered with a recording saying customer care operators can’t take the call.”
The local Phoenix, Arizona, ABC affiliate also reported the same scam to its local audience. I’ve included the short news clip that appeared on its local news program.
Note: There’s a 10 second ad at the beginning of this video for Hawaii. Fantasize or ignore…the video clip following is something you should watch so that you don’t fall victim to this latest scam.
