There are several modern circumstances that occur quite frequently among new families in which someone might ask if it is appropriate to throw a baby shower. Two such areas occur among families who are adopting or who are expecting their second (or even third, fourth or fifth) child.

In today’s world, both of these occasions are perfectly acceptable times to throw a party, but the rules governing baby showers may have to be adapted somewhat.

In the case of the adopted child, a baby shower should be planned after the child’s arrival at the home. Adoptions can be quite a lengthy process with a lot of road bumps.

Parents who are trying to adopt almost inevitably come across some very discouraging situations in terms of timing and the work involved, so it is best to hold off on the celebrations until after the child arrives.
