How to cure Alzheimer’s once and for all remains a mystery for now, but exciting developments have been occurring all the time.
Age-related diseases like Alzheimer’s could well be lessened through simply consuming tea. Green and black teas have been found to contain catechins which, as published in the European Journal of Neuroscience (Vol. 23, pp. 55-64), protect healthy and dying brain nerve cells from the harmful Alzheimer related beta-amyloid protein deposits, the true sign of Alzheimer’s . These deposits are believed to be one of the major causes of the decline of Alzheimer’s sufferers brain functioning. Tests have shown these harmful proteins to be toxic to nerve cells, leading to oxidative stress and eventually killing them if present in sufficient quantities.
Yields of catechins appear to be much higher in unfermented green teas (70mg instead of 20mg). Tea manufacturers are likely to benefit from these findings, all at a time when tea consumption is surging.
