Twenty years ago people with poor vision put up with either glasses or contact lenses because they had little choice. But that has all changed in recent years with corrective eye surgery becoming much more affordable and readily available.

It wasn’t until the FDA approved lasers as a surgical device in 1995 that laser eye surgery became possible. Now its use is widespread and many people have had their lives transformed through corrective eye surgery. When my sister-in-law had it done she was amazed at how much detail she could see around her - what was a blurry haze, even with her glasses on, was now individual leaves on trees. Things like swimming became so much easier for her too. No more worrying about what might be underfoot at the beach because she could see what was really there rather than having to work it out through touch and trying not to let her imagination fly off into a whole world of possibilities. She also loved not having to worry about getting her designer sunglasses made into prescription glasses anymore - which saved money but also kept the glasses looking like they were supposed to instead of having some dodgy shading on the lenses that was close but not quite right. It also meant no more havign to carry two sets of glasses around with her - ones for inside and another set for outside.

Have you thought about how having to wear glasses or contact lenses is restricting your life?
